Hi :) I have been meaning to make some knee pads for my son (who is refusing to walk) and needs them for crawling on our hard floors. When I saw this tutorial, I thought yes, I can do this! So I did. I'm totally stuck. My pattern pieces look very different. in step #3, how do I pin the front and back when one piece doesn't line up with the other? I have a big empty spot on the back piece, so I would have a large hole if I sewed it down. Should I make the back look like the front? I'm so confused...

Hi! Just wanted to say: it took me about 5 hours and lots of cursing and swearing, but I just finished the pants for my little girl! Wow, didn't know I could do that! I'm so very proud of myself, and it's all thanks to you! Thank you, Dana! I'm a novice, and a while back I made a pair of these kind of pants (sans kneepad) from a pattern. It was a Sew Easy pattern, but I thought it was Sew Hard, and the pants even fit all kinds of wrong.

Loooove this tutorial. Just made my first pair and mixed up the bottom and top of the pant (haha), but will try again. Just a question - my front and back pattern are pretty different - can I not just use the same shape and cut it out four times? (If this makes you laugh it may help to know that I've only ever made market bags - I'm feeling ambitious!). Thanks!

I haven't even finished my first pair of pants, but they already look awesome! I could never figure out how to sew the crotch so that it was easy to sew and reinforced. Sewing pants in this order allows me to get that strong seam.
Now I can make pants that fit my daughter's cloth diapered bum AND are long enough for her long legs!
