Green Dress

Wearing Green today?
We hope so!

Based on the Shirt Dress Tutorial, and inspired by this cute tutorial at Freshly Picked, I went....

Instead of creating a fabric casing for the waistband, I sewed 2-inch wide elastic on to the outside of the dress (found at most fabric stores). You know, the trendy belt look we've seen this past year. I also changed out the buttons and added a few extra. Didn't even bother making button holes, just sewed them right on top. (Leggings are from Walmart):
I made the dress a little shorter than I normally would so that it's more like a shirt. I guess that makes it a Shirt-Dress-Shirt/Dress? What a mouthful.
The sun has been shining all day making our March 17th absolutely gorgeous. And Lucy thinks she looks Princess Tiana. So life is good all around.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Click on the image below for the Shirt Dress Tutorial. And while you're at it, check out the new layout of our TUTORIALS section. We hope it's easier to navigate around. More of that to come on the blog!

Genius! The buttons really take it up a notch (I recall wearing large button shirts in the 80s!)

Beautiful (both Lucy and the dress)

So glad you posted this, Last night I cut out my pattern for a shirt dress. I think I may have to re-cut. It is going to be a tad big for my almost 2 year old. Hopefully I will finish it soon, I want to surprise her dad with an Easter dress from the shirt I "stole" from him.

This dress is so cute. I have been thinking about making a dress, for my little girl, with the giant elastic waist band. I am so excited you posted this. I really need to make one!

So cute! As I was reading this, I was thinking, I wonder what Dana is better at -- sewing or photography. Maybe it's a tie? They do go well together!

p.s. You've had the best locations and backgrounds for all your pictures lately too!

Adorable! I'm definitely gonna try this now that all my closet purging for Spring Cleaning is done! I have several button ups that can be used for a few of these dresses (or tunics, if you will!) Thanks for offering such great tutorials! You're one of my favorites!!!

Way cool! I love your daughter's expressions. She is so cute.

I like the big black chunky buttons down the front paired with the black striped leggings and black cardigan. I wish I had one in my size. :)

very cute, you keep me coming back for more!

oh yeah I was one day thinking of making split pea soup since my hubby likes it from the canned stuff. Hmm I guess I might rethink it if it stinks like that. I settle for collard, turnip, and mustard greens with smoked ham hocks when I want a little southern in my life.

Aw, how cute. Hmm, I wonder if I can nick some of my husband's old shirts without him noticing...

This is such a fun project! Here is a link to my post about the first one I made... it was supposed to be a mock- up due to my newbie sewing skills, but the tutorial was so easy to use that it turned out great! I have another in the works.
