The 90 Minute Shirt

Whether you're Right-side Up,
or Upside Down...

Every BOY needs a simple shirt. And we're starting off our Celebration with what I call:
The 90 Minute Shirt!

It's long for the winter, short for the summer:
It's simple, it's colorful,
It's The 90 Minute Shirt!
Based on the same construction as a baby onesie, the envelope neck is one of my favorites because it's (almost) mistake proof. And who can resist a little guy having this much fun in it?
I've done other variations in the past:
(UNO image done by Freezer Paper Stenciling....Tutorial HERE. Image HERE.)
And though the first few times I made it, the shirt took me longer than 90 minutes....I've made it so many times now that I can even get it down to an hour.

The collar is finished with a serger, BUT we don't want anyone to feel left out. So, If you don't have a serger you can still make it!
Wanna try it out for yourself? We hoped you would! The tutorial is right HERE on our site! (along with another tutorial that explains how to make your own patterns). You can find both tutorials in the buttons below or in the TUTORIALS tab at the top of the blog:
Okay, the clock is ticking. Ready, set, Go!
----------------------------------------
Make sure you grab THE BOY button, in the right-side column. Choose your favorite: Red or Yellow! Spread the word! Help us celebrate. Make sure you scroll down all the way in the CODE box to get the entire code!

So glad your celebrating boys! Can't wait to see what else you do.

I'm excited for your "boy" tutorials, I have 3. Just wondering, have you ever combined prints for boys on clothing? I love how Matilda Jane clothing does that with girl clothes, but have never seen it done well for boys. Maybe it's just too "girly" of a look

love it!

HA! You make it look so easy! Wish I had a serger so I could try it. I will be waiting for more of the boy stuff, I LOVE,LOVE, LOVE this idea. Being a mom with 2 boys and 1girl, she definatly gets more Mom made stuff than the boys. Cant wait to see what you whip up next!

Michelle said...

On behalf of handmade-starved boys everywhere, thank you for this! And even though it's not absolutely necessary for this project, it makes me want a serger even more.

This is fantastic! My husband has plenty of tired shirt that can be brought back to life this way. I'm so looking forward to this month!

Oh and the button isn't working for me. Anyone else have this problem?

I am SO excited for your "boy" month. I have a 1.5 year old boy and I have a pile of my husbands old t-shirts that I have been wanting to turn into shirts for him, but I didn't know how. So exciting! (By the way I live in Tucson and have known your mother-in-law my whole life. My Mom has done Unique Boutiique since they opened. I love her! Too bad Brady and I never hit it off because she would have been a great mother-in-law ;)

Thank you thank you!!!! I'm so excited to finally have some cute stuff I can make for my boys. There's always a TON of girly stuff so it's so nice so see stuff for the boys.

I can't even say HOW excited I am to see someone celebrating the boy. I have two boys and it seems every tutorial out there is for girls. I also tried a boy swap, just to get people making handmade for boys. Only one person joined in.

Boys need to be celebrated.

What a great idea. I don't have a boy (yet) however I know heaps of people that make this complaint -hand crafted means frills and flowers. I'm looking forward to seeing what boyish fun you get up to this month.

YAY!!! I have been loving on the shirts I've seen your little guy in for some time now and haven't ever made the time (and let's be honest, had the guts) to attempt the actual "figuring out of the envelope neckline" myself. Thank you so much for sharing your genius with us:)
(and ps -- congratulations on SYTYC! I wasn't surprised in the least to see you win it, but I sure was incredibly excited for you!)

Hey! You've done it! I've been inspired to not only start my own blog, but jump on the boy bandwagon! Ouch, I sound like such a follower now. :-( Anyway--grabbed a button, and I think I'm just supposed to add it to my blog??? Sorry, I'm still totally new at this! And I've blogged about the boy project you've inspired me to!!! If I've committed any breach of web-etiquette, please let me know!

It's about time! I'm excited to see what you feature!

I was beginning to think "We get it - large flowers plastered to the side of a baby's head are fun and all, but if I see one more twirly skirt tutorial..."

Thanks for helping out us (under-represented)mother of boys!

I no longer have to miss the envelope neck of onsies! I'm looking forward to trying this tutorial; and I'm stealing a button! As a mom of 3 crazy boys who finds it hard crafting for them, I'm happy to pass you on.

I don't have a boy yet but I think I'm going to have to make some of these for my GIRL! She hates the tight necklines on her shirts and these look comfy and so professional! Thanks so much for posting your tutorial.
