As a woman who likes ruffles, I just assume my daughter would feel the same. Well......since she's hit the full-blown princess stage, we're in luck! Ruffles, ribbons, and frill are IN.I bought this adorable petticoat at a Ventura thrift shop last year and wasn't sure what to make with it. I knew that somewhere down the road it would come to me. Then, as I was cleaning out boxes before our move, I found this black shirt (also thrifted) and thought, a-ha!....
I'll market it to her as The Princess in Black. She bought it.
It's still a work in progress. The petticoat is a little too bunched-up around her and it's a bit itchy. So it needs tweaking. But as I looked at the dress I realized, it looks very similar to my black dress from Forever 21. It's true, our children are a reflection of ourselves. So um, I guess Lucy is my kind of gal!
She likes plenty,
and plenty of (tasteful) ruffles....
and very girly Princess Slippers.
(a gift from my husband to wear at our wedding luncheon five years ago. How great is that?)
Sorry Luce for making you a mini me. One day you'll have your own opinion, your own style, and funny teenager language to go along. And then you'll be teaching me a thing or two about what's IN. Maybe then I'll be a mini you.

I LOVE THIS DRESS!
How adorable! What an inspiration! I really need to start thinking out of the box!
I love it! The dress is (as always) adorable, and so is your little girl, of course.
You always have such interesting sites for photos. I need to start looking a little more carefully so every picture I take isn't shot in my living room or at the park!
Love this dress too! Oh and also love that very same message on creating(from your 'why i swe')!
Have you seen this?

I'm sure you have! Again can't wait to look around here!

Wow - this is adorable, especially with the converse :) Love your dress too. I admire your creativity!
Very, very sweet!
OK, I'm slightly embarrassed to even mention this, but you helped inspire me through making a halloween costume for my 2 year old. She's probably going to be seen by a total of 5 people - me, who made it, her daddy who would just prefer I not spend too much, Grandma who thinks she's cute no matter what, and maybe a couple other randoms.
So, for less than $5 I used a thrifted sleeper and bargin bin fabric scraps. Where you came in was the hood - I used one of her hooded jackets as a pattern and cobbled from there.
It isn't perfect, and I have a long way to go in learning to sew well. But she enjoys it and I know she'll have fun with it! I'm still debating whether or not to remove the felt pieces and try to dye it so the colors might match up a bit better . . . don't feel compelled to look but you can find it here.
Sorry for the book-length comment, but thanks for the inspiration! :>)
You guys are too cute together! I love the whole thing, but the best part is that your paired the frilly outfit with converse. My kind of outfit!!!
Oh, by the way, we just got some black Converse for June to wear this winter and she calls them her "Lucy shoes", cute!!

You are the most amazing inventor! I have done a few small things but your ideas constantly blow me away. ;-)
It is fun to see how pieces of our personalities get passed down through those genes. How fun to share such great taste!

I LOVE THAT SHE WEARS CHUCK TAYLORS!!! My daughter does too, but she always falls in love with some bizzare pattern (black with pink flames, rainbow stripes), but I've been on the hunt for solids for her and her sister, because I love the way they look with everything. A Woman after my own heart. Again, you are such an inspiration!
I love it! My 7 year old would love it too and she's totally out of the princess stage.
The only princesses she likes anymore have microphones in hand.
Fabulous! You amaze me!

This is honestly the cutest thing I have seen! That petticoat is perfect for your little girl! Love your blog and fresh ideas!
Hey Dana,
I just wanted to share a fun little moment from last week with you. I was having an enrichment planning meeting and one of the gals was talking about how she's so into all the DIY blogs out there right now, "especially this one called MADE!" Look how global you are now (and for good reason, too). Good on ya!
HOW ADORABLE!! Everything, the ruffles, the blouse dress, the shoes, the pics and the girls!! It is lovely to see a mum being so close with her little girl. My daughters and I are very close too and it is enriching my life tremendously (something I could never imagine before having children!). Love your blog!! Thank you!
How adorable! And I mean everything, the ruffles, the blouse-dress, the shoes, the pics and the girls!! Its lovely to see a mum so close with her little girl. I have two girls and we are very close too. Its fab and I love every minute of it!! Thank you for your blog, it is very inspiring!!
We that have girls, we are so blessed, mine is a baby still but i'm counting days for this time... God bless always your relationsip with your daughter!
With little girls myself, I relate to your post sooo much. I also adore what you did with the outfit! Great Job once again!
Amazing! I LOVE it! Can I have one? I seriously will be looking for petticoats at all my thrift store shopping trips-- until I find 3!!!
That is seriously much too cute! I adore those high tops paired with that dress! I wish I could get my girls to dress like girls, but I'm such a t-shirt and jeans person that that's the route they've started to follow also.
I think that black shirt looks very familiar! Much cuter on her than me!
Sure do miss ya!
How fun! Cute, cute, cute all around. Both dresses, the shoes... cute. Good job on the refashioning.

Ok....Like you said sorry for making her a mini you!!! I don't think she realizes how lucky that is for her to have a mom like you! There are people like me who would die to have an eye for refashioning like you or the talent you have for sewing. Love the dress. Keep up the fun work! You inspire me all the time! I'm attemping a Frock dress for my little girl this christmas....

I was ALWAYS princess in pink and I so desparately wanted to be allowed to wear black. Anyway also love the dress you made from a mens shirt- too clever.
