A, B, C family ornaments

With little room (and little hands) in our house, I decided to be simple this year with our Christmas decor. We have a very small tree decorated with white lights. I was going to leave it at that. But after clicking on many of your blogs and being awed with your cute homemade ornament creations, I decided our tree needed something. Here's what I came up with. A, B, C ornaments with a letter for each member of our family (and a star on top):
L for Lucy, O for Owen, D for Dad, M for Mom, and W for our last name. Made from 2 circles and letters of felt, I sewed the letters on to the top circle with my machine. I also sewed the ribbon directly to the back circle. Then I hand-stitched around the outside with embroidery thread 3/4 of the way ,filled them with batting, and stitched them closed. They fit on our little tree perfectly:
And to give you some perspective, I wasn't kidding about little. Here it sits on our fireplace mantle:
Merry Christmas L and O:

Those are very cute! Where do you find "good" felt? Everything I come across is yucky, acrylic, do you have a source you could point me to?

I love these. They are adorable. I knew what the L and O stood for, and I assumed D was for you, but then I was so confused about M and W. Haha! (The secret family members who live in the closet??)

Haha Jean, I actually thought the same thing! I keep looking at the "D" and think it stands for Dana. I considered do "D" and "C" instead of "D" and "M" but then I realized, I have to think of my audience. The audience is our family and to the kids, well, we're mom and dad. Funny thing is, Lucy was saying "M is for Mommy, O is for Owen", etc. When we got to "W" I just told it was for "Family". When do kids understand last names??? I have no idea.

Cute! Do you also have a big tree? We stopped buying one several years ago b/c I felt so guilty about cutting down a large tree for one month's enjoyment, and after fakes, we bought a rosemary tree this year and will plant it in the garden after Christmas. Ours is about the same size as yours! :)

If I ever get my other project done (you know ... the big one) then I am definitely going to make family ornaments! Hooray! So cute! Thanks for the idea!!

I love them!! I keep seeing all the cute small trees on all the different blogs I read and I think I'm definitely going that way next year. This big tree that is crowding our living room and keeps me constantly telling my boys "don't touch" is getting on my last nerve.

Dana,
Thanks for letting me know where you find good felt. We do have Joann's so I'll check there. Thanks again for responding to my question! Amy

I really love the ornaments. You can do anything, can't you? Why aren't YOU my neighbor? It would be fun to have someone pushing me to do some sewing machine time.

Very sweet. And looking at the last photo, all you need to do is add two more family members one with the initial V and one with E and then you will have LOVE.
