Each valentine is stapled together to create a pouch full of secret candies. And the only way to find them, is to break my heart!
Skill Level: Any
Needed:
* colorful paper
* computer printer
* stapler/staples
* scissors
* candy
Start by printing this template from your computer.Two options....
1) You can find the PDF file HERE. (To print correctly: click the link, when that page opens, click "print (1 page)" at the top left corner of the page - this will allow you to open the PDF file and then print @ 100% - full page)
2) Copy and paste the image below to a word document. You can enlarge it as much as you like. I fit this exact image on a horizontal 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper
First, click on the image below to enlarge it first, then copy the image, then paste it to a horizontal Word document:
I chose to print on bright colored paper so the Heartbreakers work for both boys and girls. Cut out your hearts with scissors, trying to keep some of the black outline in there:
Another option: print to white paper and let the your kids color the hearts themselves:
Most of all, make sure your kids check out what you're doing. If they're old enough to cut or color, get them involved! If they're only old enough to eat candy, give them a bowl!
Staple around the outside of each heart, leaving an opening at the top of the heart for inserting candy (or, use your sewing machine to sew around the edge...though it might be more difficult to sew it shut. Or you might even GLUE the hearts, but they will need to dry overnight):
Since my daughter is taking these to her preschool friends, we wrote each child's name on the front and had her "write" her name on the back (with assistance, of course):
Then, stuff them with your favorite candy! Small candies work best. This is a great step for little...
or big hands to do:
Keep pushing the candy around in there so you can fit as much as possible. Everyone wants a jackpot candy explosion, right?! Then staple the opening shut with your stapler:
And there you go! Heart Break Hotel:
If you're feeling very color-conscious, coordinate the candy with the hearts:
And make sure Dad entertains you for 5 minutes while trying to juggle m&ms (not bad, not bad).
Then gather up your hearts and you're ready for the school party!
When it comes time for Breaking the heart.....
Just start tearing,
and you'll find the prize:
Happy Valentines Day little Heart Breaker!

These are my favorite Valentines I've seen yet. I don't think I'll have time to do them this year, but I will for sure do them next. Great idea!
i completely agree with leanne, this for sure is the best valentine stuff i've seen. Such a great and simple idea. Just love it ♥
What a great idea...I'm totally going to send some of these to my friend's little boys. The LOVE candy and destruction...so this will be perfect!
Hi, I was wondering if you could either post or email me the file? I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea, but when I cut and copy the picture the pixels are showing up REALLY blurry. Thanks so much! You are so creative!

Oh my goodness I love these!! I don't have any children yet, but boy I am sure I'll remember this, cause of all the idea's I've seen so far this Vday season this is for sure the most clever!

Clicking it first worked wonderfully! Thanks!!
These are way too cute! I wish we didn't already have our Valentines made out because we would totally be doing this. I am definetly saving this idea for next year though!
Thanks so much for this wonderful idea. Me and my preschooler loved the activity. Thanks for sharing!
Great idea!! I hope I remember these for next year!!!!!
This is an awesome idea! As a mom of all boys, it's nice to see ideas that suit them as well as the girls...most things I've come across are too girly for my boys. Thanks! I just wish I'd have found this sooner! ;)
Fantastic idea! I already did ours for this year (party is tomorrow and Friday) but I might do this for for the kids from us.. Hmmm I wonder if I could sew these shut rather than staple? Anyway, FAB idea! TFS!
Thank you so much for these! I have a 6th grader, and here that's still grade school. I didn't think they'd pass them out this year, but when I was informed that they would I knew this is what I'd do! YAY! TY TY TY
LOVE this idea! I'll be adding you to my list of great valentines:-) Thanks!
Yes, a great idea, stray staples from every opened parcel waiting to stab little fingers or get swallowed with a candy..
I just made them! so cute! thanks for the inspiration!
Love this and gave you some linky love today - thanks for the inspiration!
Amazingly brilliant! Love it!
these are so cute, and perfect for sensory-obsessed little ones (most especially boy kidlets!) thanks for sharing, i'll be linking from my blog :)
I think these are GREAT. And I will be making some! As to the comment from Mick, I don't see a problem, you should be supervising kids with candy anyway... But you could always sew this as well and not have any issues if you wish. Happy Valentines Day! Super cute idea :)
I work with senior citizens at a nursing home and this would be great for them to make and to give. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best and this is such a great idea.
I LOVE this! I was looking for a little something *extra* to go along with a couple gifts I got for my boyfriend, just so he had another thing to open on the BIG DAY. This is the perfect idea, especially because it was so easy! I was leaning towards filling up and decorating old root beer bottles with candies, but the process just seemed so time-consuming. This is the absolute perfect alternative, and exactly what I was looking for! Thanks so much for the inspiration!
I don't have a blogger account, but you're definitely bookmarked! ;)

Well, I was going to come here with a Thanks and say I posted about making them, but I see you beat me there with your comment! At least my boy has learned his lesson about staplers! :)
THANKS for all your great stuff!
LOVE THESE! I'll be linking today!
